A Report On The Chinese Translation Of Essays In Sociology (Excerpts)

The fifth and sixth chapters of the book Essays in Sociology are selected as the main translation materials in this report.It was published by Oxford University Press in 1946.The selected content mainly narrates Weber’s point of view on the structure of power,the economic basis of imperialism,nation,class,status and party,which is about 12300 words.Under the guidance of Catford’s translation shifts theory,the case analysis demonstrates the shifts of tenses,plural forms,active voice and passive voice,positive and negative forms,postpositive attributive and prepositive attributive,parts of speech,phrases and clauses.This report analyzes the linguistic features of the source text in terms of vocabulary,phrases and sentences respectively,and summarizes the gains and limitations.At the same time,the translator hopes that this report can bring some reference value to relevant literature.
