You and I is a family memoir written by Wan Fang,Cao Yu’s daughter,in memory of her father,on the 110 th anniversary of Cao Yu’s birth.The book is mainly narrative,with delicate and plain language,and is full of various complex emotions and rational reflections on the philosophy of life.The theme and subject of the text determine its strong emotional content,and the translation of the emotions in the text is a difficult and important task.In this translation practice,the translator has selected the most representative chapters,striving to show the authenticity,literariness and emotion representation of the biographical work,and presenting a more realistic Cao Yu to the readers.Guided by Functional Equivalence Theory,the translator focuses on the analysis from the perspectives of vocabulary,syntax and text in an attempt to convey its literary colour and emotional representation,thus arousing the readers’ resonance.At the same time,it is also expected to provide certain implications for future translations of similar texts.
