On May 17,2016,Xi Jinping held a symposium on the work of philosophy and social sciences, which emphasized the construction of “three systems”,namely the construction of the disciplinary system, academic system and discourse system.Under the background of the allaround development and prosperity of China’s excellent traditional culture,it is necessary to promote and strengthen the study of biographical literature and strive to build the “three systems”of philosophy and social sciences with Chinese characteristics. Therefore, this report chooses the biographical text Not One of the Boys as the translation text, combines the Theory of Functional Equivalence, analyzes various problems and translation difficulties that may be encountered in translation practice, and discusses what translation strategies and techniques can be used to solve relevant problems, and how to achieve functional equivalence through translation. This report introduces the Functional Equivalence Theory and biographical texts related to literature.Starting from the three principles of functional equivalence,it analyzes and summarizes the characteristics of biographical texts, and demonstrates that the Functional Equivalence Theory has important guiding significance for biographical texts.Through case studies, this report discusses the translation methods and techniques that can be used to achieve functional equivalence from both semantic and stylistic aspects in the process of biographical text translation, and conducts case studies. In view of the differences between Chinese and English, the author mainly uses four-character case, part of speech conversion and other methods to deal with vocabulary, and uses split translation, voice translation, word order adjustment and other methods to deal with long difficult sentences. Finally, through this translation practice, the translator learned about the language characteristics and translation precautions of biographical texts, gained relevant translation experience and inspiration, and also summarized his own shortcomings and areas for improvement.Through the case study,it is found that the Functional Equivalence Theory can guide the translation of biographical texts to make the wording of the translated text smooth and natural, and the content expressive.Secondly,it is necessary to understand the relevant knowledge of translation content.Understanding the background knowledge of the text before translation is helpful to improve the accuracy of translation. Finally, when translating autobiographical texts, translators should pay attention to the accuracy of translation and the expression of the author’s emotions. In terms of vocabulary, the change of part of speech helps to solve the difficulties in translation and convey the original content to the readers clearly and accurately.Semantically, the change of word order, the accuracy of the translation of professional nouns, and the rational use of idioms can make the translation concise. From the perspective of text style, the style of the original text should be reproduced to the greatest extent. When preserving the style of the original text or the attitude of the original author, the translator can give full play to his subjective initiative, adopt appropriate translation techniques and methods, and try his best to make the target readers understand.
