Study On The Expression Of Melancholy Beauty In Edvard Munch Paintings

Edvard Munch is a world-renowned Norwegian artist and the pioneer of modern expressionist painting.Melancholia and panic are the poison of Munch’s life and the elixir of his art.Munch,who has been under mental depression for a long time,takes painting as his emotional vent.The rich and dignified colors,bold and unrestrained brush strokes and unique lines in Munch’s works convey sadness,depression and nervousness.No one has ever been able to accurately draw the shape and color of depression as he did,which is the anxiety of love,and the calm from the fear of death to life,in order to express people’s spiritual and emotional depression and loneliness.Melancholy beauty in art is a kind of harmonious and beautiful pure artistic conception.No matter in the Chinese painting aesthetics or in the western art system,melancholy beauty is a very important implication style,which either appears in the overall shape of the picture or is displayed in the delicate emotion of the figure.This paper takes the melancholy beauty in Munch’s paintings as the breakthrough point,studies his painting language by combining the method of literature research with the method of image research,and explores the expression of melancholy beauty in his own paintings through his own artistic creation practice.This paper is divided into three parts:The first part analyzes the causes of the "melancholy" in Munch’s paintings,looking for the "source of melancholy" in Munch’s works from two aspects: his life experience and his art experience.The second part analyzes the specific presentation of melancholy beauty in Munch’s works,studies Munch’s painting themes of "youth and death" and "love and anxiety",and traces the characteristics of "melancholy beauty" in Munch’s works from the portrayal of characters and the creation of space in the pictures.The third part mainly analyzes the influence of Munch’s art in the series of "fleeting years" created by the author,studies the essence of his art for reference,and explores the expression style of melancholy beauty in his own works.
