Edvard Munch is a pioneer of expressionism.He has created a large number of works in his life.Many works have been collected by galleries or private collections.Most of the works are now in the Munch Art Museum in Oslo,Norway.Munch’s works are mostly used to express personal emotions of pain,melancholy or loneliness.Black is one of the colors that often appear in Munch’s paintings and is typical.Looking at the history of Western painting,it is not difficult to find that the traditional language of black painting has always existed.In the dark tone painting of the 17 th century,black was mainly used to express the light source and create the atmosphere of the picture;in the black painting of the 19 th century,black began to be endowed with emotional colors to express some inner spiritual meaning.While the black in Munch ’s paintings is influenced by the traditional black language in Western paintings,it combines the needs of personal inner emotional expression.In his paintings,black symbolizes the real emotions of unrest and depression,and expresses anxiety about life.This article is divided into five chapters.The specific contents are as follows:The first chapter is the introduction part,which explains the content of the selected topic;the second chapter mainly introduces Munch’s changeable artistic style,tragic life experience and social background at the end of the 19 th century,paving the way for the analysis of the black in Munch’s paintings Chapter three,combing black traditional painting language to a certain extent,and tentatively analyzing the connection between black and traditional black painting language in Munch ’s paintings;Chapter four,analyzing the existence of black in Munch ’s paintings,The visualization of black in the painting,the concrete presentation of the black form,the emotional expression of the black form and the symbolic language analysis;Chapter 5 analyzes the black in Munch ’s paintings and some similar phenomena in contemporary art.Get inspiration and think for a while.
