| This is an English-Chinese translation report.Its source text is selected from A Healthy Brain for Life--How to Prevent Alzheimer’s Dementia and Memory Loss written by Richard Furman and published in 2018 by Revell a division of Baker Publishing Group.The translator chooses Chapter One to Three of the first part,“Understanding Dementia”,for translating and conducting case analysis.The work focuses on Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia and emphasizes that any medicine is not able to cure Alzheimer’s but one can take some measures to prevent before it happened,and calls people for doing some changes to decrease their odds for Alzheimer’s or slow down the process if it has begun.The thesis describes the background and significance of the translation report,the main content,text type,linguistic characteristics of the source text and the target readers.The source text is an informative text.Due to its text type,there is not various rhetoric in the sentences.The description of translation process includes preparation before translation,procedure during the translation and work after the translation.In the part of translation methods and cases analysis,the translator summarizes and analyses the phenomenon and problems of translation at lexical and syntactic level.Methods at lexical level are amplification,omission,and conversion of parts of speech.Methods at syntactic level,the translator adopts literal translation,inversion,restructure and division.In the end,the translator draws a conclusion on the experience in translation practice and limitation for further research.Given the source text includes two stylistic features--one part belongs to practical text,and the other part is narrative text.So how to achieve accuracy and objectivity in the translation and how to transform in the diverse styles are difficult to the translator.Through this translation practice,the translator has learned about the linguistic characteristics of the informative text,and accumulated experience for translation of medical popular science text.Moreover,the translator expects that the translation of source text can also provide useful and fresh research materials and serviceable experience for those who want to understand Alzheimer’s. |
