In today’s world, governments have paid more and more attention to the problem of drug abuse and taken various measures to prevent and control it.During the Nixon administration, the problem of drug abuse has become a cancer of American society and aroused the attention of all walks of life.Nixon began to solve this problem after he came to power. He believed that solving the drug problem in Mexico was the key to solving the drug problem in the United States. After Nixon,Ford government basically inherited Nixon’s anti drug policy, and on this basis, cooperated with Mexico on anti drug.Based on the evolution of American anti drug policy towards Mexico from 1969 to 1977,this paper analyzes the influence of American anti drug policy on Mexico and the United States during this period. So as to explore the impact of U.S.anti drug policy on U.S.-Mexico relations and the world situation.Changes in relations between the United States and Mexico. In the introduction part,on the basis of combing the domestic and foreign academic research on the anti drug policy of the United States to Mexico,it analyzes and explores the significance, innovation and research methods of the research on the anti drug policy of the United States to Mexico,so as to determine the feasibility of writing this paper. The first part mainly traces the evolution of American policy towards Mexico after the war.As the closest Latin American country to the United States, after the end of World War II,Mexico’s national consciousness gradually awakened, began to carry out independent diplomacy, and had differences with the United States on some issues. But Mexico is still in the US and Western camp on key issues. The second part mainly introduces the anti drug policy of the United States to Mexico during Nixon period. From the Nixon Administration’s declaration of war on drugs to the unilateralist action of "interception",the U.S.anti drug policy against Mexico destroyed the U.S.-Mexico relationship and brought the U.S.-Mexico relationship to a historical freezing point. The third part mainly introduces the anti drug policy of the United States to Mexico during Ford period. The Ford administration is basically within the general policy framework of the Nixon administration.During this period,President Ford took a cooperative approach to drug control, and the Mexican government also changed its attitude and actively cooperated with the United States. The United States and Mexico launched joint drug control and achieved certain results. The fourth part evaluates the anti drug policies of Nixon Administration and Ford administration. This paper expounds the solutions and limitations of the drug control policies implemented during the two administrations on the domestic drug problem in the United States.Secondly,it analyzes the changes brought about by the drug control policies from the perspective of the relationship between the United States and Mexico. Finally,it discusses the essence of the drug control policies of the United States on the basis of studying the evolution of the drug control policies. From the unilateralism "interception action" in Nixon’s period to the bilateral cooperation in Ford’s period, the drug control cooperation between the United States and Mexico has a low ebb and a high ebb.By studying the evolution of the U.S.anti drug policy towards Mexico,we can see the changes of the U.S.position in Latin America and the world stage in this period.
