| This is a report based on the translation of Huai Nan Tzu·Shuo Lin Xun.Huai Nan Tzu is a syncretistic classic work of the Western Han Dynasty.It collects the theories from Hundred Schools and absorbed the essence of the Taoist school.Its profound thinking and thorough theories make it one of the most excellent classic works in Chinese culture.The translation of Huai Nan Tzu is especially representative.The translation is conducted under the guidance of thick translation theory.In the report,the author analyzed proverbial style of the original text,current status of translation and research situation of the original text.The paper introduces the classic translation model guided by thick translation.The author paid special attention to the proper nouns,image metaphor and literary quotation,enriched background information and reproduce the cultural connotation of the original text by applying thick translation.At last,the author compared her own translation with John Major’s cover-to-cover edition and found that the application of thick translation helped to create a good cultural background for readers.The layout and characteristics of the original text are retained when conveying the original content.In this way,the cultural shortage is diminished to a large extent.It is hoped that the translation and this report will inspire domestic translators to pay more attention to other excellent Chinese classic works and promote the application of thick translation.It is also hoped that the author’s translation can provide some reference value for the translation of the text that characterized by Classical Chinese style of writing and proverbial style.Thus,the translation of Chinese traditional classics can act as a medium to convey Chinese outstanding historical culture and philosophical thinking. |
