| Known as “The Top Dyeing of the East”,Chinese batik is one of the oldest traditional handicrafts in China.However,according to the current status of domestic translation research on batik handicrafts,relevant translations are relatively scarce,and the cognition of Chinese traditional batik handicrafts at home and abroad is in urgent need of improvement.This translation report focuses on the publicity materials from a folk batik culture publicity department in Danzhai,Guizhou,aiming at furthering the understanding and spread of the culture,history,technology and aesthetic concepts of Chinese minority batiks,exploring the translation methods and strategies of batiks publicity text,and hoping to contribute a little to the inheritance and protection of the intangible cultural heritage in China.This translation report involves some professional terms of batik costumes,culture-loaded words and ancient characters and proses,as well as geographical and cultural backgrounds and technological processes in the development of batik of ethnic minorities in western China.For translating culture-loaded words and ancient characters,the author adopts literal translation,free translation,transliteration and annotation,etc.By analyzing long sentences and adjusting word order to reorganize the structure and information,the author combines the knowledge on the differences between Chinese and English with the flexible use of various translation methods to retain the features of the original texts and fit for the expression of the target language.At last,the author also reflects on and summarizes the experiences in the practice,and sincerely hoping to provide a certain reference for the relevant publicity translation of intangible cultural heritage. |
