As one of the famous contemporary British artists,David Hockney has distinctive characteristics and created nice achievements within the fields of painting, photography, stage design and so on.He has a great influence and contribution to the contemporary art,and his landscape paintings are extremely phantasmatic. The theory of illusion in this paper comes from the theoretical achievements of Susan Lange, one of the necessary representatives within the field of western philosophy of art within the twentieth century, and take it as a perspective. At present, scholar’ research on Hockney is limited to the painting style and painting language, and the research on the illusion of his landscape painting is relatively one-sided.This paper in the main uses literature analysis and image analysis methodology to investigate the morphological evolution of langer’s illusion theory in Hockney’s landscape paintings in numerous periods.Based on the classification principle of Langer’s illusion theory, this paper studies the types of Hockney’s landscape paintings and interprets the types of their expression forms. This paper analyzes Hockney’s landscape paintings from the perspective of Langer’s illusion theory, combining with the environment of era and its own development factors, and summarizes the visual illusion space’s intuitive otherness characteristics and abstract symbol’s form-giving function in Hockney’s landscape paintings.Through Hockney’s landscape painting creation,it can understand Langer’s holistic view of art philosophy and its enlightenment significance to the transformation of painting thinking mode. The study of Hockney’s landscape paintings from the angle of Langer’s illusion theory can not only deepen the understanding of the contemporary artist Hockney and enrich the research results in the related fields of Langer’s aesthetics, but also make the creative spirit aesthetic value.
