| The ancient Greek epic Iliad shaped and praised a large number of active heroes in the Trojan War,they reflect the ancient Greeks to the "character" of the hero’s praise and worship. The modern American commercial film Troy remoulds these "character" heroes when it reconstructs the epic Iliad from text description to audio-visual presentation, from text narration to picture mosaic, which reflects the modern Westerners’ interpretation of "character".In epic Iliad, the hero has a prominent family, the blood of god,and the director Peterson institute for not only in the film Troy to delete the information about the most well-respected hero, and played down the hero a demigod identity, and therefore "noble birth" was only one of the prerequisites for the ancient Greeks to become "heroes".The film Troy is also a reconstruction of the epic poem Iliad heroic fighting. In the epic Iliad, the heroes on the battlefield all have the physical features of power; In Troy, although the director Peterson restored the heroes’ strength on the battlefield,he also applied the strength of the main hero to the love scene, which added a "sexy" factor. From this,we can see that in the ancient Greek understanding of "character","character" is a prominent personal quality,is a necessary condition to become a hero, but at the same time, this kind of individuality should be the public good that citizens of the city-state pursue and yearn for.But in the modern concept of "character","character" means more to attract the eye for the purpose of different.Related to this,in the epic Iliad, courage, wisdom and honor are the dominant virtues of the "character" hero. However,in the film Troy, the director Peterson only shows these dominant virtues in the main hero, and weakens the action factor in courage, shows the rethinking of wisdom, and carries on the external interpretation of honor.By revealing the cross-media reconstruction of the hero images of the epic Iliad, this paper aims to show that the concept of "character" of the ancient Greeks was strongly influenced by the identity society and polis politics at that time, while the film Troy reflects the individualism concept of modern Westerners. In addition to seeing these different tendencies in the understanding of "character",this paper also tries to explain the common lineage between modern Westerners and ancient Greeks,i.e.the classical humanism spirit in them,by comparing the cross-media reconstruction of hero images.Ancient and modern heroes are the unity of universality and particularity. The emergence and spread of the epic Iliad and the film Troy are mainly due to the power of hero worship. |
