Summary Of The Research On Iliad In Contemporary China

The epic Iliad is not only a magnificent masterpiece that represents the beginning ofthe western literature，but also an important carrier to understand western ideology andculture for Chinese people. Its value can be immeasurable, charm overwhelming, andinfluence long-standing.This paper tries to make a collection of the relevant information about Iliad since itwas introduced into China so that a system can be formed from the scattered material.And we can regard and study Iliad from the macroscopic perspective about decades ofdevelopment in China. Moreover, this paper can not only provide a comprehensivematerial to study the epic for people but also provide a new perspective and method bymeans of making a systematic summary on Iliad.This thesis takes time as clue mainly,starting from1958and ending in2012. The long period is divided into three stages:1958-1989for the first one,1990-1999for the second one and2000-2012for the last.The first stage includes three decades but China made the study of Iliad mostly in1980sand I will analyze in three aspects: the Iliad as teaching book、the progress in translationand China’s further investigation and discussion for the epic separately. In the secondstage I will make the dissection and interpretation in six aspects. The first one is aboutthe hero concept in Iliad, the second one is about feminism research, the third one isabout the values in the epic, then is about the Iliad subject classification research, andabout the authors and the article source, the last is about the dialogue between nations,making study of Iliad from the Angle of comparative literature. During the last period,there came some new discoveries in the research of Iliad in China which are mainlyreflected in the fields of literature history as well as movie and television. This paper willmake a detailed and comprehensive analysis for Chinese translation and research on Iliadthrough these three parts.This paper tries to make a collection of the relevant information about Iliad since itwas introduced into China so that a system can be formed from the scattered material.And we can regard and study Iliad from the macroscopic perspective about decades of development in China.
