Nowadays,with the increasingly close international communication among countries,English learning has been playing an important role as a tool of communication.The English curriculum also sets targets for students’ humanistic quality and comprehensive abilities.But in the junior high school stage,the utilizable feature of language covers its humanistic character.Paying too much attention on the practicability of the language,only knowing the accumulation of grammatical rules and neglecting the cultural background of language phenomenon,which leads to the students’ weak cultural awareness.As a result,students’ cultural awareness is weak,and the understanding of culture and language use is not in place.Their learning style of students mostly relies on rote memorization,and the teaching content is also more inclined to language knowledge and skills,ignoring language and cultural emotions,among which cultural understanding barrier is a major reason for this phenomenon.For junior high school,this study regards the improvement of the cultural understanding ability in cultural awareness as origin of force.In addition,in order to help students understand the culture in language better,feel the similarities and differences of culture between Chinese and foreign languages,and think about language and culture independently,this study takes English poetry as the teaching medium and content.At the same time,suggestions on unit design and teaching design are put forward accordingly,aiming at helping students to experience culture,understand language,learn and use English with an understanding attitude,and improve their language ability while increasing their language and cultural knowledge.At the same time,this study also carried out the teaching implementation of the designed teaching cases in a school,and communicated with students,hoping to get better feedback and improvement.
