After the improvement of the new English curriculum standard,teachers also began to pay attention to students’ ability of comprehensive language application.In rural junior high schools,students’ language learning environment is relatively backward.In order to improve students’ ability of listening and speaking English,many rural junior high schools are equipped with phonetic classrooms.Under this condition,English teachers in rural area will also design classroom activities to cultivate students’ ability of listening and speaking English.This paper aims to research the effectiveness of English classroom activities based on cultivating students’ listening and speaking ability in rural junior high school.There are three research questions,including teachers’ attitude towards implementing classroom activities for cultivating students’ listening and speaking ability in rural junior high school,students’ participation in classroom activities for cultivating students’ listening and speaking ability in rural junior high school and the effect of classroom activities for cultivating students’ listening and speaking ability in rural junior high school.Based on the above problems,a survey was conducted in a rural junior high school in Xiuyan County,Anshan City,Liaoning Province by methods of interview,questionnaire,classroom observation and test.Through the use of SPSS software for data processing and analysis,conclusions are as follows.The results of teachers’ interview show that they hold different views on the classroom activities of developing students’ listening and speaking ability in rural junior high school.The results of the questionnaire show that students have negative emotions in different aspects of classroom activities.Classroom observation and test results show that the effective implementation of classroom activities for cultivating students’ ability of listening and speaking English in rural junior high school makes students’ scores of listening and speaking tests in the post-test higher than in the pre-test.The result also shows that the effective implementation of classroom activities is beneficial for cultivating students’ ability of listening and speaking English.
