In order to improve junior high school English teaching and to understand the characteristics of classroom activities in English listening and speaking classes,this paper makes a study on classroom activities of English listening and speaking lessons in junior high school.The subjects involved in this study are 6 classes selected from the 2015 Eleventh National Junior High School English Classroom Teaching Demonstration.This paper analyzes the characteristics of the input and output activities and the characteristics of FOF,FOM and FOFS activities in listening and speaking classes.The study of the characteristics of input and output activities in junior high school English listening and speaking class includes three aspects:(1)the time distribution of input activities and output activities;(2)the degree of interaction in input activities;(3)the time distribution of controlled output activities and communicative output activities.The study of the features of FOM,FOF and FOFS classroom activities in junior high school English listening and speaking class includes three aspects:(1)the time proportion of FOM,FOF and FOFS in input and output activities;(2)the time proportion of planned FOF and incidental FOF;(3)what are the focused forms in planned FOF and incidental FOF activities?This research found that more time were spent on input activities than output activities,and teachers introduced background information and knowledge related to their topics and designed a variety of activities for the students to use English;there were different degrees in the interactive activities,and the teachers made effective input by negotiating and communicating with students;both the controlled and communicative output activities were paid attention to.In addition,FOM activities occupied most of time in the classroom,the next is FOF activities,the last is FOFS;in the planned FOF activities,vocabulary,grammar,pronunciation were focused on;in the incidental FOF activities,grammar and vocabulary were paid more attention to than the other one.The research gives some teaching implications:teachers should design enough input and output activities.They should pay attention to the interaction between teachers and students and the interaction among students.Appropriate controlled output activities and communicative output activities should be designed.At the same time,teachers should carry out FOF and FOM activities according to the curriculum requirements and the language ability of students.They should pay attention to the basic form and meaning of language in both planned and incidental classroom activities and attach importance to the analysis of discourse as well.Finally,it also points out the limitation of the study including the limited teaching cases and the unexamined teaching effect.
