| “Yahoo! Finance”,as one of the most influential financial websites in the United States,involves abundant financial content,such as stock quotes,stock exchange rates as well as company press releases.It is the preferred website for the people to understand domestic and foreign financial knowledge.Since “Yahoo! Finance” news is updated quickly with accurate news,it provides excellent reference value for enterprises and the economic construction of the countries.The author finds that the passive voice is used frequently in English in the financial news.If the passive voice cannot be accurately understood and translated,it is easy to be confused about the content of the article for readers.Therefore,this thesis aim at completing the translation practice of passive sentences under the Skopos Theory.The translation materials for this thesis were selected from the contents of“Yahoo! Finance” news from July to October in 2019.In the translation practice,the author finds that there are various differences in the usage scope and expression of passive sentences between English and Chinese.Therefore,the author is strongly interested in the translation of English passive sentences on the basis of understanding the contents of financial news.In order to study passive sentences in-depth,the author selects passive sentences within the articles of “Yahoo! Finance” news.Under the guidance of the Skopos Theory,different translation methods are used to translate English passive sentences.After the research,the author concludes that there are four strategies in which English passive sentences can be translated into Chinese.The first strategy is to translate English passive sentences into Chinese passive ones.The second is that the English passive sentences are translated into Chinese active ones.The third is to translate English passive sentences into Chinese determinative Ones.The fourth is to translate English passive sentences into no-subject sentences or add a general referent subject.It is worth noting that various translation methods will also be considered in the translation process,such as the literal translation method,the division method,the synchronizing method,the reversing method,the conversion method,the omission method and the amplification method.This translation practice draws the following conclusions: Firstly,the content of financial news is highly professional,involving a wide range of financial affairs.The translator needs to choose a suitable translation method to improve translation quality based on the content.Secondly,it is extremely obvious that passive sentences between Chinese and English are totally different so the Skopos Theory provides a theoretical basis for the translation method of passive sentences.Thirdly,translators are bound to improve their overall quality and constantly learn professional knowledge to enhance the quality of translations.Fourthly,the different cultures in the world create multiple languages.Translators are supposed to know more about the cultures of the different countries in order to be comfortable in the translation practice.Fifthly,various reasons for translating English passive sentences into different Chinese sentences are summarized through the translation practice.This thesis has completed the translation of passive sentences in “Yahoo!Finance” news based on the Skopos Theory.In the process of combining theory and practice,the author provides specific feasible solutions for the difficulties encountered in the translation process.At the same time,the author also finds a great number of shortcomings.Therefore,the author hopes that the future research can be further deepened on this basis. |
