| This English-Chinese translation report is based on the translation of the fourth chapter of Discourse in Translation.In this report,the author aims to explore the difficulties and solutions in the process of translating informative text from the perspective of Peter Newmark’s translation typology.Based on the text typology theory,communicative translation and semantic translation can be applied to translating this text.The communicative translation is adopted to translating the informative text,to create readability and acceptability of the target text to the readership.Semantic translation is applied to expressive text,which stresses the state of mind of the original writer.In this report,the author analyzes the application of communicative translation and semantic translation in the book of Discourse in Translation in terms of lexicon,syntax patterns,and discourse analysis.For the first level,the translation methods used by the author mainly include addition,restructuring,subtraction and conversion,aiming to ensure that the target text is readable for target readers as much as possible.For discourse level,the author concentrates on the cohesion and coherence among sentences and paragraphs,and mainly adopts translation methods such as recasting and combination after understanding the logic connotation of the original text.Through this translation project,the author believes that communicative translation and semantic translation have their respective scope of application in different text types.In the process of translation,the translator should make a reasonable selection of specific translation strategies according to different contextual meanings and the characteristics of the original text.The author hopes to provide valuable references to other translators by exploring the difficulties and solutions in the process of translating informative text. |
