A Practice Report On E-C Transediting Of The Political Management Text

Political management texts,including government annual reports and strategy plans,are generally delivered by government management departments and are an important way for government administrative staffs to learn the development status of other countries.Today,with the development of globalization,political management texts are playing an even more important role in international exchanges.However,these texts are often long with hundreds of thousands of words.Government administrative staffs are usually too busy to read them through with carefulness.Thus,transediting these texts is in great demand.Transediting is the activity to edit and translate based on the original text.It is different from translating.In translating,the information in the original text is usually transferred into the target text with loyalty.Yet transediting adopts methods like selecting and reordering to shorten the original text to highlight key information,and readers of the transedited text can get the most useful information of the original text using the least time.This report is based on the author’s transediting practice.In practice,the author applied four transediting methods: selecting,summarizing,combining and reordering,and found that these four methods can well guide the transediting of the government political management text from English to Chinese in that they can improve the quality of the transedited text and make the transedited text concise and coherent,and the key information of the original text stands out.
