On The Relationship Between Interest And Non-interest:From Kant’s Non-interest To Carlson’s Scientific Cognitivism

Kant’s Non-interest and Interest are ancient topics in the history of aesthetics.However,in the 20 th century,Scientific Cognitivism,an important school of environmental aesthetics,opposed Kant’s Aesthetics and proposed Functional Beauty.So,we can discuss the conflict between Allen Carlson and Kant and the relationship between Non-interest and Interest.Because Carlson did not understand Non-interest and Interest,Scientific Cognitivism has many shortcomings.As Allen Carlson valued Function,we need to discuss the relationship between function and aesthetics and the relationship between knowledge and aesthetics.We think this question is important: Is aesthetics innate or empirical? Innate aesthetics means the concept is within aesthetics.The aesthetic of experience signifies the concept is beyond aesthetics.In light of innate aesthetics,concepts guide aesthetics.In terms of the aesthetic of experience,the concept limits aesthetics.Therefore,the knowledge,function,and aesthetics of Allen Carlson are all aesthetics of experience described by Kant.Allen Carlson said the knowledge and function is what Kant said was Interest.So,although Functional Beauty Allen Carlson put forward conflicts with the aesthetics of experience Kant proposed,this conflict is not important.Allen Carlson advances Kant’s Aesthetics and extends the relationship between knowledge and aesthetics.This shows the practicality of Allen Carlson’s Scientific Cognitivism.This thesis has seven sections.In the first section,we review the history of Scientific Cognitivism;in the second section,we discuss the Functionality of Allen Carlson;in the third section,we explain what Functional Beauty is,and we gave a few special examples;in section 4,we discuss Kant’s Non-interest and Interest;in section 5,we discuss Kant’s Pure Beauty and Dependent Beauty;in section 6,we explain the contradiction between Allen Carlson and Kant,and we try to resolve this contradiction;in section 7,we point out the practicality of Scientific Cognitivism.Finally,we summarize the full text: the practicality of Scientific Cognitivism is inevitable.
