In this translation practice report, the author selects the introduction text of scenic spots,Touring Saint-Gaudens,as the research object, which is the first-hand information obtained by the author in the United States. The text introduces the historical site of the famous American sculptor St.Gaudens.Its main purpose is to provide tourists with relevant tourism information, and to attract readers to go to visit, which requires the translator to consider achieving informative function and vocative function as the translation purposes. For the informative function of the text, the adequacy and practicability of information should be taken into account when translating, such as the names of scenic spots and the cultural loaded words in the translation material containing rich cultural information. For the vocative function of the text, the translator should consider the reading expectations and aesthetic habits of target language readers to reorganize complex attributive clauses, convert the passive sentences into active sentences, and rewrite simple descriptions into four-character patterns. In view of this, the author believes that Vermeer’s Skopos Theory can guide the translation practice of Touring Saint-Gaudens,because Skopos Theory can be regarded as the primary principle of all translation activities, advocating that the purpose decides the choice of translation strategies and methods. The use of Skopos Theory can help translators to choose appropriate translation method so as to achieve the intended purpose of the tourism text. The author hopes that this research can enrich the domestic translation studies of foreign tourism texts to a certain extent, and bring some enlightenment to the publicity of China’s tourism resources.
