| The translation report is based on English-Chinese translation of Wisdom: a History,a translation project undertaken by the supervisor.The original work is concerned with many interesting wisdom topics such as myths,religions,magic,proverbs,fables and so forth.Therefore,the difficulties mainly rest in the translation of culture-loaded words,proper nouns,proverbs and fables,which also serves as the main issue to be explored in the translation report.In order to present a highly accepted target text to Chinese readers,the corresponding solutions to the translation problems are proposed and the main translation strategies and techniques are generally summarized.In regard to the translation of culture-loaded words,literal translation with annotation is employed to deal with the phenomenon of lexical and cultural gaps.In regard to the translation of proper nouns,transliteration with endnotes and amplification are adopted to overcome the translation barriers caused by cultural differences.In regard to the translation of proverbs,literal translation and omission are employed to retain beautiful image of proverbs and ensure the conciseness and popularity of target language.In regard to the translation of fables,four-character structures and conversion are adopted to make target language more vivid,appealing and consistent with expression habits of Chinese readers‘.The translation report presents valuable references to philosophy readers and humanities scholars,which demonstrates its high academic value.Meanwhile,the industry and professional value can be highlighted clearly through its enlightening effect on enhancing professional competence of translators in the field of management and humanity. |
