English reading teaching is both a vital component in high school’s English teaching and one of the basic skills of English listening,speaking,reading,writing and translation skills,and is also the important way for learners to communicate with others and obtain information.Good English reading teaching methods not only can cultivate students’ reading interests effectively,but also can strengthen students’ reading skills and improve reading ability.The New English Curriculum Standard(2017 Version)advocates an English learning activity concept that points to core literacy development and such learning methods as the independent learning,cooperative learning as well as inquiry and so on,which requires teachers should change the traditional teacher-centered English reading model and rebuild or recreate a new teaching model or method that puts students in the center of the teaching.While Project-based learning method is a learning way that is based on the theories of constructivism,multiple intelligence and pragmatism.At present,it has been widely applied at abroad,and has achieved some results,and it has been advocated by new curriculum reform as a new comprehensive inquiry-based learning method.But it has seldom been used into English reading teaching in senior high schools.So,this paper is intended to combine project-based learning method with senior high school’s English reading teaching,and eventually verify its effectiveness and feasibility,which is the innovation point of this paper.This research contains 110 subjects,who are from two parallel classes of an ordinary high school in Xiamen,Fujian Province.And the experimental class uses Project-based Learning method,while the comparative class uses “3P” method.In this research,it adopts documentary method and experimentation method and interview method,questionnaires,tests and SPSS as tools,and then it makes use of SPSS to analyze the data,attempting to answer the following two questions:(1)Compared with traditional teaching method,what’s the influence can project-based learning method have on students’ English reading interests?(2)what’s the influence can project-based learning method have on students’ English reading ability? And Which level does it have the greatest impact?After four months’ experiment and analysis the data,which are the questionnaire,grades and interview,the final findings of the research are:(1)Compared with traditional teaching method and with the help of project-based learning method,it can give students more chances to explore and cooperate as possible as it can as well as to make the students masters of the study,so it actually can increase students’ English reading interests effectively;(2)project-based learning method have a positive influence on students’ reading ability,and it can improve students’ English reading ability,besides,it offers the greatest help for the “C” level.At last,after the whole experiment,the research has found that teachers should realize the importance of this method,and then try to cultivate students’ interdisciplinary ideas as well as to give more guidance ideas in order to help them to complete the tasks.Besides,the teachers should use formative evaluation.The research does rich the teaching methods in Foreign language and improve the qualities in senior high school’s reading teaching.
