| Known as "The New Scholars","Fortress Besieged" is an important satirical novel in the history of Chinese literature. The use of a variety of rhetorical methods is a major language art feature of this work,in which the author’s use of puns is ingenious and profound. Its translatability is also a major issue for scholars. The Belgian linguist Dirk Delabastita proposed 10 pun translation strategies, which Professor Zhang Nanfeng explained. On the basis of this research, this paper sorts out the Uyghur translation of the pun in "Fortress Besieged" through text analysis, and analyzes and explores the types, translations and expressions, and proposes that it may affect its expression. The reason for this has been related to the theory, providing theoretical guidance for the practice of Uyghur translation in puns.It can be seen from the analysis that the original type is mostly focused on pun of the homonym. The Uyghur translation mainly translates the pun into non-puns.Because the translator pays attention to better conveying the original content, the reader is better in the reading process.Understanding the meaning of the text, discarding a certain form of pun,so the expression effect is mostly consistent with the original. However,in the translation of some examples, the meaning is far from what the author wants to express, and the translation effect is not ideal, which leads to the difficulty of the reader’s understanding of the context. On the basis of this research, some enlightenment is proposed for the Uyghur translation of pun in Chinese: translators should pay attention to the influence of pun on context in translation, make explanations by editing methods, and learn from the translation experience of pun in other works related to Uyghur. |
