| Although to appreciate the original literatures are quite perfect, the barrier of language makes the translation of literatures necessary and emerge. To translate literature requires the translators to possess high culture and language ability. There are two crucial steps when translating literature works. One is understanding, the other is expressing. The later one is definitely a very vital phase. At present, there are many translations from Chinese to Korean, most of which are novels, about 400 works, such as 'Na Han' and 'Pang Huang' by Lu Xun and some other works by Mao Dun. Also, there are some famous Korean translators who have devoted much to translation, such as Li Junzhe who is famous for his translation of 'Fortress Besieged'. Though Li is a famous expert in translation, there's seldom any study for his translating style and skill. Presently, more and more various translation versions appear in different languages, so studying Li's perfect translation skills will provide the literature translation with some criterions, especially for the translation of novels. It goes that all beginnings are hard, we're sure that this study will make up the present research blank and be positive for the study of translation from Chinese to Korean. This thesis will focus on Li's language expression features and study his translation skills in speech, grammar, and rhetorical skills, including the fixed words, mimesis and echoism words, proverbs, idioms, vulgarism, titles, indicator, transforming sentence structures, transforming simple sentences and the use of rhetorical skills. We'll study Li's skill of being truthful to original works and excellent translation skills, and we'll analyze the examples and interpret the theories carefully. The text also indirectly consults some relative material and books, and has been listed at the end of the thesis as the bibliographies, which I feel appreciate so much for those who wrote these reference books. The new views in this thesis about Li's translation skills are the following: first, strictly filtrate popular fixed words, mimesis and echoism words, idioms and speech, etc. in order to amplify the impressive words in the novel; second, in terms of syntax, there are some differences on syntax between Chinese and Korean, Li's highly skills in translating 'Fortress Besieged' even makes this Korean version more like an original novel; third, Li give prominence to the rhetorical parts which insure the aesthetic values. It projects the characters and caters for the author's original style by figure of speech, repetitions and allegoric skills. In a sense, translation can be a re-creation. Translating novels not only focuses on the proper wording, but also on language form and aesthetics of form and characters. To study Li's translation skills will be a good guidance for us. |
