A Report On English-Chinese Translation Of The Winter Soldier(Excerpts)

The translated text of this report is selected from chapter one and chapter two of the fictional book The Winter Soldier by Daniel mason,an author in The United States.Against the backdrop of the First World War,this book is mainly involved in love and medicine.There is little depiction of fighting in the book but rather its severe aftermath by describing the scarred soldiers,and the almost equally traumatized medical care providers.The original text is fictional and through the translation of some chapters in the original text,the translator found that the book contains a lot of long and complex sentences,culture-loaded words,medical terms and proper nouns such as names and places from Central and Eastern European countries.The translator first analyzed the original text and referred to related materials.In the practice of translation,according to the language features of the original text,with the combination of the translation theories of domestication with foreignization,the translator put forward translation strategies such as literal translation,free translation,conversion of voice and etc.to complete the translation,so that the translated text could retain the features of the original text and possess great readability.This translation report focused on how to convert the long complex sentences in the original text into ones in line with Chinese expression habits,and how to convey the connotation and meaning of culture-loaded words to target language readers.Through the translation practice and writing of this report,the translator’s capacity to tackle and analyze problems has been significantly improved,together with a deepened understanding of the original text,and she has also gained a further understanding of the translation methods of culture-loaded words,long and complicated sentences of English.At the same time,the translator has also tried to summarize the corresponding countermeasures to some problems confronted during her process of translation,which hopefully,will provide some references for the translation of similar texts in the future.
