In today’s world,with the rapid development of economic globalization,countries have become closer,exchanges between different nations have long gone beyond politics,economy,and trade.More and more exchanges have focused on the cultural field.In addition,China’s opening to the outside world has been deepening,excellent cultural works are being shown to the world,and more and more excellent Western works are introduced to our people.In this background,literary translation as an essential means and effective way of cultural communication,has naturally become the focus of people’s attention.The translation of novels is an important part of literary translation and plays an important role in the transmission of cultural values.When translating,we must take into account the special cultural connotation of the source language,and take care of the language norms of the target language.The quality of the translation is directly related to whether the work can be better disseminated.This report explores how to use domestication and foreignization to guide the translation of literary works through the translation practice of Maddi Dawson’s latest work A Happy Catastrophe.Domestication and foreignization is a common strategy in the translation process,especially when dealing with cultural differences.Domestication means the translation conforms to the language style and cultural tradition of the target language.Foreignization is the opposite of domestication.The processing of the language and cultural characteristics of the source language is remained,which means that the source language’s exotic flavor is highlighted in the translation.This report provides a detailed explanation of the translation process,experience,problems encountered and solutions,and an in-depth analysis of typical cases.It further elaborates on using domestication and foreignization translation strategies to solve the situation between the source language and the target language.And cultural differences,aiming to provide reference cases for translation of the same subject matter.
