A Study Of Calvino’s Postmodernism

Italo Calvino(1923-1985)was a famous writer and literary theorist of Contemporary Italy,and a master of post-modernism literature in the world.Both his novel creation theory and his later novel creation have a distinct post-modern color,which can explain and confirm each other.This paper is divided into five parts.The introduction briefly discusses the background and significance of the topic,and at the same time,sorts out the research status of Calvino at home and abroad,especially with the gradual improvement of the translation of domestic works,Calvino will get more and more readers.On this basis,the research contents and methods of this paper are determined.The first chapter analyzes Calvino in the postmodernist cultural trend of thought.This paper examines Calvino’s absorption of Postmodern philosophy,such as Roland Barth and Derrida,in his residence in Paris,on the one hand,and on the other hand,his novel creation is obviously influenced by Ullippo literature group represented by Raymond Guenot.His theory of creation and his later novels are different from the traditional narrative style.This is the basis for understanding Calvino’s thought of postmodernism.The second chapter discusses Calvino’s postmodern creation theory and critical theory.Section of this chapter is divided into two parts,the first four from Calvino American speech proposed by the artistic style of "light","the beauty of speed" and "crystal structure","openness" encyclopedic novel narrative practice of literary ideal of the four novels with postmodern color theory,a detailed analysis of calvino creative thinking;The fifth section starts with why we should read the classics,and reveals the difference between the classical view and the unified traditional classical order.Through the discussion of his novel creation theory and critical theory,it is helpful to understand the creation practice of modern novels after that.The third chapter analyzes Calvino’s postmodernism creation practice.This chapter uses text analysis to analyze his later representative works,Invisible City,Palomar,Winter Night Traveler,and Castle with Crossed Fates.The first section mainly explains the non-linear narrative mode of the four works,which indicates that the structure and narrative of the works are different from the traditional closed narrative,and have more open space.The second section mainly analyzes the uncertainty of Calvino novel creation and the creation method of characteristics of diversity,Italo Calvino’s postmodernism creative practice on the one hand,the characterization of Calvino the tireless pursuit of literary creation technique,has a form exploring significance and aesthetic value,on the other hand has also demonstrated in its efforts to broaden the literary boundary,the challenge was the attitude of literary tradition.The fourth chapter tries to summarize Calvino’s postmodern novels and theories in the west and China.In a word,by analyzing Calvino’s post-modernism thoughts origin,writing theory and novel practice,this paper tries to find traces of modernist thought,which can not only provide a relatively easy entry point for us to understand the western post-modernism,but also have far-reaching implications for domestic contemporary literary theories and the writers’ writing.
