This thesis juxtaposes the Italian writer Italo Calvino with the Chinese writer Wang Xiaobo in the context of comparative literature, and conducts a systematic research on the former's influences on the latter.Part 1: The origin of the influence relationship between Calvino and Wang and the current research. First, this part analyzes the origin of the influence relationship on the three aspects: the world-wide popularity of Calvino and his works, the gradual acceptance of Calvino and his works in China, and the subjective and objective reasons why Wang is influenced by Calvino and his works. Then several academic papers on this topic are summarized respectively, and detailed research results and comments on various aspects of these papers are given. At last the starting point and its innovations of this thesis are explained.Part 2: The reflection and acceptance of aesthetic keynote .This part analyzes the influence relationship between Calvino and Wang on three points: 1st Calvino and Wang's concern for the destiny of human beings; 2nd how the heaviness of the real world is compensated by the lightness of the world of art; 3rd the tribute paid to the artistic imagination.Part 3: The intersection and combination between novel and poetry. The following three aspects in which Wang is influenced by Calvino are analyzed. First, the pursuit of rhyme and rhythm in their novels. Second, they both tend to the poetic of language in their works. Third, they both adopt poems directly into their works.Part 4: The breakthrough and innovations in the aspect of structure. The "zero time" theory, the free style in constructing the structure and the method of intertextuality were applied perfectly in Wang's writing because of Wang influenced by Calvino.
