Lin Bu was a famous reclusive poet in the early Northern Song Dynasty. He lived in seclusion on the Gu Shan of the West Lake.He built a garden and lived with the West Lake all his life.He planted plum blossoms, raised cranes, sang and entertained himself. He did not marry or have children.Twenty years was not enough for the city.He is well versed in classics and history, good at painting and calligraphy.Although he is full of learning,he has never become an official. He is a real hermit. His landscape reclusive poems and plum blossom poems have left a brilliant page in the history of Chinese literature, but they have not attracted the attention of most scholars.Lin Bu lived in seclusion on the Gu Shan.He was not disturbed by worldly affairs. He didn’t want to be rich or poor. The most appropriate way to describe his character is to use the eight words "tranquil and lofty, heart as clear as water".In view of the unique seclusion environment and characteristics of Lin Bu,combined with the research results of predecessors, this paper makes a systematic and thematic study on the influence of Lin Bu’s seclusion on later literature and culture. The paper is divided into three parts. The first part introduces the types of reclusive styles before Lin Bu,and sorts out different kinds of hermits by classifying the former hermits. In contrast with the former generation,it highlights the differences between Lin Bu and the former hermits, and summarizes his unique reclusive characteristics. The second part studies the influence of Lin Bu’s seclusion on the later literature. This part mainly discusses the influence of Lin’s seclusion on the plum blossom image in the literary history, the influence of Lin’s seclusion on the poetic style of Song Dynasty, and the influence of Lin’s seclusion on Japanese Wushan literature. The third part studies the influence of Lin Bu’s seclusion on the culture of later generations, including the profound influence of his seclusion on the West Lake Culture and the elegant culture of Song Dynasty.
