Study On Subtitle Translation Of The Wandering Earth From The Perspective Of Eco-translatology

As a way of spreading Chinese culture,more Chinese movies have been shown overseas.They serve as a bridge between the East and the West.In this intercultural communication process,subtitle translation,as an important part,has greatly promoted the development of Chinese movie culture.Excellent subtitle translation not only contributes to the transmission of Chinese culture,but also enables foreign audience to better appreciate the characteristics and charm of Chinese culture.The Wandering Earth is a popular Chinese science fiction movie.It has received numerous positive reviews and accolades since it was released in China and overseas in 2019.As a tool of overseas communication,the subtitle translation of The Wandering Earth has attracted the attention of many scholars and translators.Scholars either analyzed the subtitles of The Wandering Earth from the perspective of Skopos theory,or focused on the cultural communication function of the subtitle translation of The Wandering Earth.The thesis has analyzed the subtitle translation of The Wandering Earth under the guidance of Eco-translatology theory.Eco-translatology theory,proposed by Hu Gengshen,is a comprehensive study of translation directed by ecology.The thesis has analyzed translators’ adaptation,selection and transformation in the translation process from principles of the three-dimensional transformations and post-event penalty,and probed into some translation strategies and methods available.It has concluded that Eco-translatology could direct subtitle translation,and the translators should actively adapt to the translational eco-environment and take the language habits and cultural customs of foreign audience into account and then make appropriate responses and choices based on the requirements of the environment.In the process of translating The Wandering Earth,the English language environment has been fully considered,and English audience have been respected.The linguistic transformation in the selection of words and sentence structures has been successfully achieved.In terms of cultural background,the translators highlighted the different cultural environment of the foreign audience and overcame the cultural differences and obstacles between the two languages,and realized the cultural transformation and demonstration of Chinese cultural elements in the movie.In addition to the linguistic and cultural transformations,the subtitle translation also reflected the real intention of Chinese subtitle of The Wandering Earth,and attained the communicative goal of the original text.Meanwhile,there are some improper points or even mistranslations in its subtitle translation.The thesis discussed these deficiencies and put forward some revising suggestions,in an attempt to improve the quality of the translation.The author hopes to provide direction and guidance for future studies on subtitle translation,so as to help Chinese movies go out.
