The Effects Of Different Styles Of Meditation On Multiple Temporal Processing | | Posted on:2022-04-12 | Degree:Master | Type:Thesis | | Country:China | Candidate:J Y Li | Full Text:PDF | | GTID:2505306347950099 | Subject:Basic Psychology | | Abstract/Summary: | PDF Full Text Request | | Ttracing back to the history of mankind,the tradition of meditation has been passed down and developed for thousands of years.The word meditation is used to describe practices that self-regulate the body and mind,thereby affecting mental events by engaging a specific attentional set.Time perception is a fundamental cognitive process for humans to perceive the world.In recent decades,the effects of meditation on the perception of time get more attention gradually.However,up to now,there is no direct study to explore the effects of different style of meditation on the multiple temporal processing(within several hundred milliseconds).Thus,in this stedy,we investigated the effects of different style of meditation on the capacity of simultaneous multiple temporal processing(the capacity of STP,CSTP))and sequential multiple temporal processing(sequential multiple temporal processing)separately used temporal oddball-detection paradigm(TODP)and spatial splitting of a temporal interval paradigm(SSTI).Experiment one showed that meditation has an impact on the time perception of simultaneous multiple temporal processing,the capacity of simultaneous multiple temporal processing increases.Compared with control(CT)exercise conditions,the capacity of simultaneous multiple processing is significantly higher in open monitoring meditation(OMM)exercise conditions.However.There is no differrence between FAM and CT condition.CSTP in vision is around at least 5 to 6 in OMM condition,while 4 to 5 in CT condition.Experiment two showed that different style of meditation exerts differential effects on the time perception of sequential multiple temporal processing.In comparison to OMM,FAM led to a relative overestimation of durations,while duration pereived shorter but more accurate in the OMM group.In addition,the effects of different style of meditation on time perception did not change with the number of multiple spatial locations that need to be coded.In other words,the effects of different style of meditation on the perceived duration of the standard interval was not affected by a summation of’clock pulses’ during the sequential presentation of the targets.Further analysis of the questionnaire showed that the effects of different style of meditation on the time perception of multiple temporal processing was not determined by anxiety and arousal level.Further results suggest the critical role of allocation of attention in the effects of different style of meditation on time perception of multiple temporal processing. | | Keywords/Search Tags: | Meditation, Time perception, Multiple Temporal Processing, Attention, Open monitoring meditation, Focus attention meditation | PDF Full Text Request | Related items |
