| In the Qing Dynasty, there were 43 Jinshi in Ningxia, and the number of them showed an "M"shape over time. From the opening of Shunzhi to Qianlong, the number of Jinshi in Ningxia gradually increased and the first peak was reached;to Daoguang, the number of Jinshi has shown a decline;subsequently, the number of Jinshi in Ningxia increased once again, and reached its peak during the Tongzhi period. However, after the reign of Tongzhi emperor,no scholar was admitted as Jinshi anymore. This feature was caused by many factors. For example, the Qing government supported the policy of imperial examinations;the population changes in Ningxia during the Qing Dynasty;the number of scholars in various disciplines,etc..At the same time,in the Qing Dynasty,The number of Jinshi is larger/there were more Jinshi in the north than in the south and this is caused by several combined factors such as economy, nature and family. There were two Jinshi families in Ningxia in the Qing Dynasty:Lingzhou Xie Family and Heping Luoyu Family. On the one hand, family thinking highly of the imperial examination offered sufficient material basis for those who wanted to become a Jinshi. On the other hand, the reading atmosphere has a greater impact on the younger generations.Through intergenerational guidance and teaching, the family’s imperial examination career is more prosperous and can continue to be passed on.In addition, the improvement of the system of government and academies, the attention of local governors, and the donations of squires were also important factors in cultivating ofNingxia Jinshi in the Qing Dynasty. There are many errors in the name, font size,Chinese-style ranking, resume, hometown, etc.of Ningxia Jinshi in the Qing Dynasty in the local history of the Qing Dynasty and the imperial examination list. For example, the ranking of the Jie Zhentai should be the top 59;Ji Xuezhou in the 19th year of Jiaqing was appointed as Fengxin County Governor.More over, some of the newly revised topographical records also had errors in the description of Ningxia Jinshi in the Qing Dynasty. For example,Zhang Weixin was not a Wen Jinshi in Pingluo county history.A total of 16 scholars in Ningxia in the Qing Dynasty have written works, including 2 personal works,3 local chronicles,24 poems,29 articles, nearly 3000 memorials, and 4 other works.A comprehensive study of the writings of Ningxia Jinshi,on the one hand, can glimpse the life, academic thoughts, and literary attainments of Ningxia Jinshi,on the other hand,it can also study the political and economic conditions of the time based on the content of these writings, which is very helpful for cultural studies in Ningxia region and beyond. |
