Probable Modal Adverbs Of "Meizhun" And "Shuobuzhun"

This paper takes the modal adverbs meaning "probable" of "Meizhun" and"Shuobuzhun" as the research object,analyzes and compares the similarities and differences of the two words from synchronic and diachronic perspective,and reveals their usage and characteristics in modern Chinese.From the syntactic point of view,we try to study "Meizhun" and "Shuobuzhun" from syntactic,semantic and pragmatic on the basis of analyzing a large number of linguistic data.From a diachronic point of view,we mainly investigates the historical origin and development track of these two words.This paper include five chapters:Chapter 1:we introduce research object,research content,research significance and literature review of this paper,and explaining the source of linguistic data.Chapter 2:In the syntactic part,we mainly investigates the syntactic position,syntactic function and the combination of "Meizhun" and "Shuobuzhun" with other words,and focuses on the combination of these two words with modal verbs,modal particles and other modal adverbs.Furthermore,we analyze the reasons why it can be used with modal verbs and modal particles,and explains in detail the order of its use with other modal adverbs.Chapter 3:In the semantic part,firstly we lists the definitions of "Meizhun" and"Shuobuzhun" in dictionaries and monographs.Then,according to the relevant corpus,we investigate their semantic background,and finally conclude these two words have probabilistic,subjective,unexpected and positive tendencies in their semantic features.Chapter 4:In the pragmatic part,the author studies the pragmatic features of "probable"and "uncertain" from the perspectives of stylistic distribution,sentence type distribution,pragmatic function and textual function.In terms of style,these two words are evenly distributed between colloquialism and written language,but "Meizhun" is prefer colloquialism.In terms of sentence type distribution,both can be used in declarative sentences,exclamatory sentences and question.In terms of pragmatic functions,both of them have the functions of expression,evaluation and emphasis.Finally,the textual cohesion function of both of them is "inference".Chapter 5:This paper mainly describes the grammaticalization process of "Zhun","Meizhun" and "Shuobuzhun" from a diachronic perspective,and on this basis analyzes the grammaticalization mechanism and motivation of the three words."Meizhun" and"Shuobuzhun" are both phrases at first.In the process of use,due to the change of syntactic position and the mechanism of reanalysis,the semantics are blurred and solidified into words.In addition,the grammaticalization of "Meizhun" is influenced by "subjectivity and subjectivisation",while the grammaticalization of "Shuobuzhun" is influenced by the cognitive mechanism and the analogy of "Meizhun".
