The Multi-Angle Investigation On Probable Mood Adverbs Of The Category "Yexu"

The thesis chiefly discusses the mood adverbs mean "probable"which include "Yexu", "Huoxu", "Xingxu". From a synchronic and diachronic perspective, we try to study the similarities and differences of these three words and the whole features of this category mood adverbs. From a synchronic point of view, choosing a large mount of linguistic data from corpus as the basis, using the combination of quantitative and qualitative analysis, we try to discuss these mood adverbs from semantic, syntactic and pragmatic.This paper consists of four chapters:Chapter one:mainly studies the grammaticalization process and origin of these three words. On this basis, we analyse and compare the motivations and developmental pattern of the three from diachronic point of view, and try to seek the differences of these three words.Chapter two:in the semantic part, at first, we particularize the interpretation of the probable mood adverb of the category of "Yexu"in six dictionaries,and conclude the three. Then, we discuss the similarities and differences in semantic,and consider that they have the differences about subjective certainty based on the grammaticalization process. Due to the same part of semantic, we deeply study the semantic background of these probable mood adverbs.And we finally find the semantics of their characteristics: probability, subjectivity, politely, consultation.Chapter three:in the syntax section,we discuss the probable mood adverbs of the category of "Yexu"syntactic distribution and function in the sentence, the singly using or combination with other words. This section center on these three words combination with modal verbs, modal particles,modal adverbs without the probable mood adverbs, the other categories probable adverbs and linking verb "Shi". On the part of modal particle, we deeply study the differences about subjective certainty among these three words.Chapter four:in the pragmatic section, we mainly discuss the application, distribution and expressive function of the probable mood adverbs of "Yexu"In colloquialism and written language. According to the statistical figure of word frequency, we consider that "Yexu"distribute nearly in two situations, "Huoxu"prefer written language, "Xingxu"prefer colloquialism. On the part of expressive function, the probable adverbs of "Yexu"have the characteristic of subjective conjecture, euphemistic conferment and highlight focus.
