The Function Of Scene Designing In Film Scripting

Scene which is one of the significant elements of film arts as well as the specific spatial environment in which the plot of a film is unfolded,plays a significant role in shaping character and foiling themes of films.Scene is designed along with the development of plots and appears in the whole process of script creation to provide support for personal action and theme presentation.Therefore,when making script,the scriptwriter should pay high attention to designing scenes.Combining with the creation experience of excellent films and the original screenplay Come on! Chun Shan,this paper researches the scenes in the film script,and discusses the function to foil themes,shape characters and highlight regional characteristics through scene designs.The first part of this paper discusses how the screenwriter foils the theme through scene design.This paper takes the example of the original screenplay Come on! Chun Shan to design typical scenes to foil the theme of the play.For example,open pastoral scenes are used to deliver the themes of nature and freedom;enclosed interior scenes are used to express the theme of bondage and warmth and the semi-open public scenes are adopted to show combination of tradition and modernity.Scenes must be designed according to main ideas,and their shapes and styles must be consistent with the theme.The second part explains methods that the scriptwriter uses to portray characters through scene design.Firstly,components and elements of scenes should be able to highlight characteristics of characters,show their identities and promote the development of stories.Secondly,reasonable scene atmosphere can externalize emotions of characters and reveal their rich inner emotions.Creators can combine emotions with scenery and design expressive lights,shades and colors to indirectly show inner activities and emotional world of characters.The third part discusses the methods to highlight geographical features by using the way of scene design.Geographical features are vital elements in scene design.The selection and shaping of natural and cultural landscapes can highlight regional features of films and reflect specific atmospheres of the times and unique outlooks of the society.Only by carefully observing and experiencing life,and grasping natural and cultural characteristics of specific regions can creators design typically representative scenes.
