Sino-Tibetan Chinese characters has strong performance of visibility and interpret blueprints; compared with alphabetic characters represented by Indo-European, it is more indicative in font design. Chinese characters-this kind of graphical characters gives us a lot of space to play in the font design process, and we can integrate different elements in it. In today’s Chinese font design, we see more and more design concepts of Chinese culture, Chinese nation, Chinese spirit continue to be integrated into it, which makes us our font design with more and more national character and uniqueness.Under the background that national elements continue to be integrated into Chinese font design, this paper attempts to introduce the more territorial and unique regional culture elements into Chinese font design. "Regional Culture" refers to a cultural tradition has a long history within a specific area, inherited by today and still plays role; it is concentrated reflection of ecology, folklore, traditions and other civilization within a specific area; its formation is roughly affected by ethnic distribution, zoning, immigration factors and natural environment, and eventually formed regional culture including its unique diet, architecture, religion and dialect. Continue to draw natural environment, cultural environment, social environment and other regional factors of local region passively formed in the history process and customs, religions, literature and art, academic thinking positively formed in the development of history process into font design, which is integrating regionalism and culture into font design. These elements interact and interrelate, giving font design with a rich cultural connotation and regional characteristics, in highlighting national characteristics while well integrated into national spirit.Based on the above theoretical basis, this paper divides regional culture factors into two categories with font design as a starting point, the first is the image cultural factors as the representative of dialect, historical sites which can be perceived specifically by recipients; the second is the mental cultural factors as the representative of language and culture, national traditions, folk beliefs, customs which need recipients perceive on spiritual level. On this basis, this paper combines with the typical case of integrating regional culture elements into modern font design, systematically discusses the application of the image factors and mental factors of regional culture in Chinese font design.
