Abstract/Summary:
On October 30,2020,the author conducted an online E-C simultaneous interpreting for the online lecture “The Experiences with Peer Feedback that Improve Ability to Give Peer Feedback”,one of the lectures on the discipline development of foreign language studies held by School of Foreign Language of Northeast Normal University. After the task, the author wrote this practice report based on the interpreting experience. The description of the background and the entire process of the interpreting task, including preparation, ongoing procedure, and post-evaluation is provided in this report. On the basis of a detailed analysis of the transcripts of the interpreting, three major problems redundancy, information loss and disfluency are summarized. In order to cope with the three problems and improve interpreting quality, the author explores causes of the problems and proposes corresponding tactics, omission and simplification, anticipation and reconstruction, segmentation and addition in the light of Gile’s Effort Model of simultaneous interpreting.Through this interpreting practice, the author realizes that the success of interpreting demands not only the interpreter’s proficiency in both languages and a wealth of knowledge reserves, but also the use of proper interpreting tactics. The author hopes that this practice report may be of some referential value to other student interpreters.
