Comparing with the Indo-European vocabulary system,quantifiers are a particularly distinctive feature of the Chinese vocabulary system,it is also one of the key points for foreign learners to learn Chinese.As an important part of Chinese quantifiers,verbal quantifiers are an indispensable part of quantifiers.It can be seen that for Chinese learners,the learning of verbal quantifiers is very important.During my teaching in Confucius Institute of Bangor University,the author finds that learners do not fully grasp the usage of verbal quantifiers,and can not skillfully and accurately use verbal quantifiers in communication.There are many errors in grammar and pragmatics.Therefore,the author takes this as the starting point to carry out the research,and explores the errors of verbal quantifiers of learners in the Confucius Institute of Bangor University.This paper first summarizes the origin,significance and previous research results of the topic.Based on previous research results,this paper uses questionnaires to study Chinese learners from the Confucius Institute of Bangor University,and investigates the acquisition of Chinese verbal quantifiers by beginners,intermediate and advanced Chinese learners,and in summary,it is found that learners of all levels of Chinese proficiency have a better overall grasp of borrowed verbal quantifiers than special verbal quantifiers.Based on the results of the questionnaire,this paper analyzes the errors in the use of verbal quantifiers by the students in the Confucius Institute of Bangor University.The errors can be divided into four categories,the excessive generalization of verbal quantifiers,the mixing of verbal quantifiers,the misplacement of verbal quantifiers and redundant components respectively.It also explores the reasons for the errors,which can be summarized as the generalization of purposes and rules,negative transfer of mother tongue,incomplete textbook compilation,improper teaching and practice methods of teachers,and improper learning and communication strategies of learners.Finally,on the basis of error analysis and combined with the author’s practical experience,this paper puts forward some suggestions on the teaching of Chinese verbal quantifiers,mainly from three aspects: textbook compilation,teachers’ teaching methods,students’ learning strategies and communication strategies.
