| Warfare was a constant feature of the Jin dynasty. As an indispensable part of the war, military security was directly related to the victory or defeat of the war,and the outcome of the war directly affected the prosperity or decline of the state. This article examines the evolution of military security in the Jin dynasty by looking at the issues related to military security, starting with the security of supplies and soldiers and the security of troop personnel. The paper is divided into three chapters, with the exception of an introduction and a conclusion. The first chapter deals with the formation and establishment of military security in the Jin dynasty. Before the unification of the women’s true ministries, the wars between them were often small in scale and did not yet require systematic security work. But with the unification of the Wanyan ministries, the women real people realised the importance of military security for warfare and began to consciously build a security system to supply the front line.By the time Jin Taizu,Taizong and Xizong launched their wars against Liao and Song, the Jin dynasty had already formed a set of effective military security systems. The recruitment and deployment of supplies and soldiers was taken seriously, and personnel organisations began to be built up and applied flexibly to the war effort.Although it was not yet mature,it achieved a leap from zero to one, laying the foundation for a series of military victories at the beginning of the Jin dynasty, and thus for the establishment of the state. The second chapter deals with the development and improvement of military security in the Jin dynasty. With the advent of a long period of peace, economic production in the territory of the Jin dynasty initially recovered, consolidating its rule over the territory of the Central Plains, increasing the absorption of the Liao and Song systems, and steadily improving the political and economic level. On this basis, military security also developed and tended to improve. As can be seen from the wars against the Southern Song under King Hailing and King Shizong, the Jin dynasty was able to mobilise the country’s supplies and troops to launch military operations, and had a perfect system of personnel organisation to command and dispatch troops effectively, enabling the Jin dynasty to be in a superior position for a long time in confrontation with the Southern Song and Western Xia.The Jin dynasty’s military security became more sophisticated during the Zhangzong period, but the feudal bureaucracy was corrupted over time, resulting in the military security not working as effectively as intended, negatively affecting the situation on the battlefield and leading to a decline in military power. The third chapter deals with the collapse and disintegration of military security in the Jin dynasty.During the Jin-Mongolian War,the military security of the Jin dynasty faced unprecedented challenges in the midst of the turbulent situation and the intensity of the war.The Jin dynasty was caught off guard at the start of the war and was dealt a severe blow. This was followed by war with the Southern Song and Western Xia,which increased the pressure on military security. The already decaying military security system was unable to cope with the impact of such a fierce war and could not provide sufficient support to the front line.Supplies and troops were scarce, personnel organisation disintegrated and command and control failed. The imperial court lost its ability to provide military security to the battlefields and had to delegate authority to the localities to deal with the war, resulting in a situation where local governors and powerful men fought on their own and raised their own supplies for the war.The Jin army was unable to gain an advantage on the battlefield, thus winning less and losing more, and falling into a vicious circle, eventually losing the war and dying. |
