Chariot is a traditional weapon in ancient China. It began to appear in the battlefield at least from late Shang Dynasty. The campaign style that"Chariot heading, army following"had been lasting for more than 1000 years. But from the period of Zhanguo, Wu ling king in Kingdom Zhao ordered wearing minority clothes and learning shooting on horses, cavalries became more and more important and was as the new kind moving army instead of chariot. After disappeared in history stage in Han era for 1000 years, chariot appeared again in battlefield in Ming Dynasty by a miracle, and developed many kinds of chariots and strictly weaved army. It not only equipped the most advanced firearm in the world, but also could work in with jack-tar well. Chariot soldiers were also formal army type, flourishing at that time. This was not the history by accident. There was a main reason that the technology of military affairs had a new development in Ming Dynasty, and firearms were used in battlefield cosmically, with the new method that was never used before. Because of the threat from minority, the cavalries couldn't deal with it, and it was necessary to build chariot troop. From middle of Ming Dynasty, the open and easy political atmosphere and the vogue of inventing new weapon, these also created important condition for the great development of chariot. At that time, chariot and chariot troop were not only used in the real war, but also played an important part of reference and promotion in the development of battalion system. The idea that different troop battling together, quick and proper logistics guarantee are still meaningful for us today. But because of the political corruption in late of Ming Dynasty and unavoidable shortcomings of ancient chariot, when battling with the minority army, chariot and chariot troop didn't bring into play with its key function, not to mention to break the chain of traditional military system. The inkling modern army, is far away from appearing. |
