On Du Weiyun’s Methodology Of Historiography

Du Weiyun’s methodology of history is based on his historical view and historiography view,and is also influenced by the era background,academic environment,study experience,teachers and friends’ interests,and historical aspirations.Du Weiyun believes that history is the past and the true record of the past,so history should be the first for truth.As "true history needs the wings of beauty and kindness".Therefore,historians should write history with a innocence spirit and excellent insight on one hand,and with a feeling of benefit mankind and application on the other hand.Historiography,with its truth,kindness and beauty," describes the past and thinks about the future ",that is,it records the truth of history and preserves the human history in the spirit of innocence;it also shows the evil with praise the good and rebuke the bad,and establish a good education,promote a good atmosphere."With the aim of punishing the later generations,human civilization will be dawn from now on." Du Weiyun thinks that history itself contains truth,kindness and beauty,while historical of all dynasties praised the truth,kindness and beauty,so the function of history and historical has been raised to maintain the development and progress of human civilization.To be specific,Du Weiyun’s methodology of historiography not only thoroughly and comprehensively discusses the specific historiography methods such as induction,comparison,synthesis,analysis,textual research,imagination,narrative and explanation,but also systematically makes efforts to various methods by combing the origins of ancient and comparing the differences between China and the West.More importantly,Du Weiyun explored the truth,kindness and beauty of history and historiography with methodology,and presented the academic character of integrating Chinese and Western.That is to say,Du Weiyun’s methodology of historiography is a breakthrough in Chinese and western historiography.Which not only reveals the uniqueness and nuance of Chinese historiography and its thoughts and methods in the comparison between Chinese and Western historiography,but also explores the universality and common spirit of Chinese historiography and its thoughts and methods in the convergence of Chinese and western historiography.In this sense,although Du Weiyun’s methodology of historiography is mainly based on Chinese historiography,it is actually the methodology of world historiography,namely,the general methodology or "methodology" of history and historiography research.Of course,Du Weiyun’s strong Chinese cultural feelings,strong China-oriented feelings,distinctive narrative style and repeated revision of the text make his methodology of historiography expression style too full of emotions and insufficient argumentation,rich content but quite repeated,complex structure system but not rigorous.
