Chinese culture has exerted a profound influence on areas around China,and there have been a relatively independent Chinese cultural circle and a Confucian cultural circle formed.In his book named The Vitality of Chinese Culture: An Interpretation of Tradition,Mr.Liu Mengxi elaborates on the reflection on how traditional culture enters into modern life.He also highly refines the essence of tradition and explains the connection between traditional value ideas and modern social life.There’s not an English version of the book.The translator selects the first chapter,the foundation of the book,as the source language text for the Chinese-English translation task,and writes this report based on the translation task.The translator aims to make the target readers understand the connotation of Chinese traditional culture and feel the charm of Chinese traditional culture more deeply.The selected source text falls into the informative text type,focusing on content,facts,information,knowledge,etc.In the translation process,the translator needs to reproduce the content of the source text,which is the primary task,and ensures the readability of the target text at the same time.Therefore,the translator chooses the three rules of the Skopos theory as guiding rules.In the process of translation task,the translator establishes a term bank,with the help of computer aided tools,authoritative parallel texts and official websites,to ensure the consistency of terms.In the report,the translator selects typical cases from lexical,syntactic and textual levels to illustrate translation methods and techniques used to deal with culture-loaded words,four-character structures,run-on sentences,subjectless sentences,repetition and implicit logical relations in the source text.Through the completion of the translation practice report,the translator has a deeper understanding of Chinese traditional culture,and benefits from traditional thought and culture.What’s more,the translator better understands the translation theory and improves her translation ability by applying translation methods and translation techniques during the translation process.It is hoped that the report will provide some reference for staff,who has studied the translation of texts related to Chinese traditional culture,in terms of translation methods and expressions,and make a contribution to the dissemination of Chinese culture.
