Brian Mossop suggests that revision is reading a translation, aiming to spot and modify problematic passages to meet some quality criteria that will vary from text to text.Given translation revision,Mossop proposes 12 common types of errors in translation, also known as revision parameters, which can be classified into four groups:transfer, language, content as well as presentation, and based on this,he also proposes specific practical guides on revision. There are two ways of translation revision:self-revision and other-revision.The author believes that through self-revision,translators can reflect the translation theories and strategies used in their translation procedure and check whether they have promoted readers’ understanding. The author chose the first eight chapters of the biographical novel Cave in the Snow to carry out English Chinese translation practice and then made self-revision.This paper mainly discusses the translation errors and self-revising procedures of Cave in the Snow. The author found that the draft translation contained some problems such as inaccuracy, incoherence, lack of logic, and idiom.Based on these errors as well as the language characteristics of Cave in the Snow, the author transformed Mossop’s revising parameters into a case analysis to look at the translation errors of the book Cave in the Snow and discovered that only 6 of the 12 revision parameters are most helpful during the whole revising process. The target readers of Cave in the Snow will be the ordinary public.According to the six dimensions, the revised translation achieved completeness, accuracy, logic, smoothness, and idiom, which is better in line with the habits of Chinese expression and more conducive to the understanding of the public.
