Translation Report Of The Animal Kingdom: A Very Short Introduction(Chapters 1-5)

The explicitation strategy refers to the translation strategy used to express explicitly the implied meanings of the source text in translation or the meanings that can be interpreted through inferences,including the content emphasized by the author,and thus make the logical relationship clearer.The type of the source text in this translation practice is popular science text.The adoption of explicitation strategy can minimize the ambiguity caused by language conversion and reduce the difficulty of readers’ understanding,which is in line with the purpose of popular scientific text.Based on the E-C translation of The Animal Kingdom: A Very Short Introduction(Chapters 1-5),the paper summarizes the writing style of popular scientific text and analyzes the translation techniques from lexical level,syntactic level and textual level under the guidance of explicitation strategy.Specific translation techniques of popular science text are discussed,such as replacing pronouns with specific nouns,readjusting the clause order and adding conjunctions.These translation techniques are adopted to make the target text precise and concise so that the knowledge and the interest of popular scientific text can be conveyed as much as possible.
