| With the development of science and technology,artificial intelligence is deeply connected with our lives.In order to make Chinese readers understand the development of AI of foreign countries,the translation of relevant texts has become an important means of scientific exchanges among different countries.For such a purpose,the current author of this translation report chooses three chapters of the book The AI-Powered Workplace written by Dr.Ronald Ashri as the source text for this translation practice,and writes this translation report.The book introduces the development and application of artificial intelligence in the workplace in detail,which is significant for our country to develop further intelligent workplaces.This translation report first introduces the purpose and significance of the translation task,followed up by a brief introduction to the source text description and target readers,then describes the translation process,including pre-translation,translation and quality control,and finally gives a case analysis of difficulties encountered in the translation process and corresponding countermeasures from the lexical,syntactical and textual levels by adopting Nida’s functional equivalence theory.At the lexical level,in order to accurately convey the information of many professional terms,proper nouns and nominalized words used in the source text,the current author makes use of such translation methods as literal translation and transliteration with annotation.At the syntactical level,for the commonly used passive voice and long and difficult sentences in the English scientific text,the current author makes proper use of amplification,restructuring,omission and other strategies so as to make the translation conform to the expressing habits of the target text.At the textual level,the lexical cohesion,grammatical cohesion and thematic progression used in the source text are reproduced in order to realize coherence and logic in the target text.By means of this translation practice and the writing of the translation report,the current author has a better understanding of the strategies and methods for translating scientific texts.In the process of this translation practice,the current author attaches great importance to the spread of information in the source text and the thinking habit and reading expectation of target readers by adopting appropriate translation strategies and methods according to the scientific text with its high conciseness and rigorous logic so as to guarantee the translation quality.It is hoped that this translation practice will help to popularize the relevant knowledge of AI,and this translation report will shed some light on the translation of scientific texts and cultivation of talents of relevant fields. |
