Huang Jin was born in Wuzhou,where Neo Confucianism was popular.He learned from the masters of Neo Confucianism,Fang Feng and Shi Yiao,and known as one of the "four scholars".Because of the deep imprint of Neo Confucianism in his thought,he constructed a personality aesthetics centered on Neo Confucianism,at the same time,he put forward his own unique views on inheriting the traditional literary theory and calligraphy aesthetics.On the basis of full possession of literature,this paper makes a comprehensive study of Huang Jin’s aesthetic thought from four aspects: Neo Confucianism,personality,literary theory and calligraphy.In addition to the introduction,the paper is divided into four chapters to discuss Huang Jin’s aesthetic thought:The first chapter is the background of the formation of Huang Jin’s aesthetic thought.The social background,regional culture and academic background of Yuan Dynasty are the important factors for the formation of Huang’s aesthetic thought.The second chapter is Huang Jin’s personality aesthetics.On the basis of Neo Confucianism,Huang Jin established ontology basis for his ideal personality,and constructed the highest realm of personality Aesthetics: "the unity of human and nature".He tooks the "Sincere" as the internal category of the integration of heaven and human,and expounded the realm of the unity of heaven and human,then it leads to the important category of Neo Confucianism— "Benevolence"."Benevolence" is Huang Jin’s ideal personality.Under the guidance of "Benevolence",the state of man and heaven and earth as one is revealed.Therefore,Huang Jin puts forward the personality cultivation methods of "cultivating clear heart" and "seeking things with poor reasoning".The third chapter is Huang Jin’s aesthetic thought of literary theory.Huang Jin believes that the origin of writing lies in the natural "Qing Qi",but the "Qing Qi" is not easy to control.It is necessary to integrate "Zhi" with "Qing Qi".Huang also reflected on the function of poetry,he followed the traditional view of "poetry springs from emotion" and believed that poetry lies in the "truth" and "integrity" of emotion.Therefore,Huang Jin’s aesthetic style of poetry also shows the tendency of "light" and "harmony".The fourth chapter is Huang Jin’s calligraphy aesthetic thought.Huang Jin inherited Xue Ji and formed a unique style of Junyi calligraphy,and has the characteristics of maturity which influenced by Zhao Mengfu.His calligraphy theory has obvious characteristics of Neo Confucianism.He thinks that calligraphy is a "small skill" and that character is more important than works.
