The research of Wen Xin Diao Long (Literary Heart Carving Dragons) hasbecome a systematic specialty--Long Xue (Dragon-ology) with over 350monographs and 6,000 articles on it published in and out of China in the past one hundred years. This is unique in the study of Chinese classical literary criticism and classical aesthetics. We can say that it is a choice of history. Because in one hand a large number of researchers have common interest in Wen Xin Diao Long and attach great importance to it, so they research it without prior consultation. Especially, many famous scholars of culture and masters of studies of Chinese ancient civilization pay close attention to it, and have written down some famous academic monographs, such as Huang Kan, Fan Wenlan, Lu Kanru, Wang Liqi, Zhan Ying, Yang Mingzhao, Zhang Guangnian, Wang Yuanhua, Rao Zongyi and so on. They all have written down some monographs about Wen Xin Diao Long, although most of them are not major in Long Xue. It's no doubt that the greatwork--Wen Xin Diao Long has the unique charm. In the other hand, the socalled "choice of history", is represented in that the academic focus handed down from generation to generation has been aimed at Aesthetics of Wen Xin Diao Long. However, it is still a difficult work and an unfinished task to grasp the ideological system of literary aesthetics of Wen Xin Diao Long accurately. This paper studies the literary aesthetics thought of Wen Xin Diao Long in four aspects. First, it studies the philosophy basis of it. As the "classical work" of literary criticism and aesthetics of the Wei, Jin, Northern and Southern Dynasties, Wen Xin Diao Long not only contains abundant literary aesthetics thought, but also the doctrines of the Confucianism, Taoism, Metaphysics and Buddhism. The unique place of Wen Xin Diao Long which is different from usual monographs of Chinese classical literary criticism, is that Liu Xie who is the writer of Wen Xin Diao Long combines Chinese classical philosophy, and uses them as important references or even direct materials when he thinks about problems of literature and art. Therefore we can't grasp the ideological system of literary aesthetics of Wen Xin Diao Long accurately, until we make clear upon the philosophy basis of it.Second, it studies the basic literary aesthetics thought of Wen Xin Diao Long. Liu Xie begins with the fundamental concept "nature doctrines", and summarizes the essence of literature. He says that literature is beautiful because it expresses people's hearts. This beauty should be nature but not decorated, and the ideal of it is both the content and form should be beautiful and the beautiful content and form should be unified. With this beauty, literature will be very appealing and educative. Base on that, Liu Xie has searched all over the literary circles and constructs a words system of literary criticism of "literature should be based on feelings and to the utmost of feelings".Third, it studies the theories of literature writing and appreciation of Wen Xin Diao Long. Under the theory of "literature should be based on feelings", Liu Xie forms "subjective spirit and objective things are integrated" as the core word of the theory of literature writing, and puts forward its own theories of artistic style and literary innovation. At the same time, Liu Xie constructs the theory of literature appreciation with "zhi yin" (the person who understand your writing best) as the core, therefore Liu Xie's theories of literature writing and appreciation intensely and typically indicate the unique words features of Chinese classical literary criticism and classical aesthetics, and become the foundation of the words system and theory of them.Forth, this paper studies the text aesthetics of Wen Xin Diao Long. The word "wen" in "Wen Xin Diao Long" has comprehensive meaning, an important one is the beauty of perceptual form, besides kinds of writings. Under taking kinds of "wen" as different forms of beauty, Liu Xie puts forward "make content appealing and form vigorous, form style on the base of genre" as his ideal of aesthetics. And then he studies the beauty of artistic form, such as shenglv (the sound, rhyme and tone of characters) and bi-xing (analogy and arouse). We can say that, Wen Xin Diao Long is a monograph of literary aesthetics which is most systematic, profound and close to the practice of writing in ancient China. It is also rare in the history of theory of world literature and art and world aesthetics. |
