The Research On Wangkai-yun’s Chu Ci Shi

Wang Kaiyun was an important litterateur,scholar and historian in the late Qing dynasty.There are a lot of achievements,having been got by scholars,in the study of his Chu Ci Shi,but there are still some questions to be solved.First of all,the academic circle focuses on 1883 or 1885 for the date of the completion of the book,which is either inaccurate or the evidence is weak.Based on the investigation of the specific time node of Ding Baozhen`s death in Wang`s letters,we confirms that his book was written in 1885.Secondly,focusing on the issue of the collection of Gao Tang Fu in the book.Some scholars claim that it was Wang who chosen Gao Tang Fu in Chu Ci,but Chao Buzhi’s Bian Li Sao had already collected it in Song Dynasty.Wang claims the Gao Tang temple in Chu is a metaphor for the Gao Tang city in Qi,and king Qing-xiang’s meeting with Gao Tang fairy means to uniting Qi against Qin.He express his frustration of his diplomatic strategies by expressing Qu yuan`s political pursuit,which is the fundamental reason for Wang’s selection of the it.Thirdly,there are few scholars pay attention to the inclusion of Tian Wen Bu Zhu in Wang`s book.This paper holds that the novel explanation in Bu Zhu is in the tradition of Wang annotations,which is the premise of collection it.Wang Kai Yun concludes that Chen Zhaokui`s explanation was better than Chu Ci Zhang Ju,and it was the fundamental reason for the selection of it.Chen’s advantages are mainly embodied in his paragraphing of Tian Wen.Chen wanted to expatiate on the facts of the six states,he believed that Tian Wen was written eighteen years after the reign of King Qingxiang,but he ignored the historical facts and made the gist of his thesis at variance with his interpretation.Thirdly,according to the wang Kaiyun` and Chen Zhaokui`s direct comments on Qu yuan,it is clear that the dominant thought of Qu Yuan in his work is still Confucian.To anlyze Chu Ci Shi`s novel interpretation characteristics,from the perspectives of Wang Kaiyun’s pursuit of diplomatic strategy,Gongyang’s thought of Confucian classics,and the influence of Chuci Zhangju on the hermeneutic theory of Chuci Shi,this paper holds that Wang’s interpretation theme of “uniting Qi and resisting Qin” and Wang`s far-fetched interpretation style are obviously related to Wang’s foreign policy towards the end of Qing Dynasty and Cixi’s dictatorship.Finally,the achievements of the Exposition on the Ci of Chu cannot be denied,and some viewpoints have been confirmed and adopted by scholars of later generations.Wang Kaiyun’s interpretative theories and novel conclusions had a profound influence on Liao Ping and a group of contemporary scholars of Chu Ci.Chu Ci Shi objectively promoted the study of Chu Ci to seek for a new change,and it was the origin of the suspicion of history in the field of Chu Ci in the late Qing Dynasty.
