The "General High School English Curriculum Standards(2017 Edition)" stipulates that teachers should pay attention to cultivating students’ metacognitive learning strategies and cognitive strategies. For example, the compulsory content emphasizes cultivating students to analyze the reasons and try to solve the difficulties when they encounter difficulties in learning;and reflect on the effects of their own use of different strategies, sum up experience, and make adjustments as needed. In the 2017 edition of the curriculum standard,it is clearly pointed out that reflective learning ability is the ability that high school students need to master.Learning to reflect and making progress in reflection is a basic requirement for high school students. This research is based on cognitive theory and Mezrow’s transformation theory, using questionnaires and interviews as research tools, taking 229 students from a senior high school in Jilin and four first-line English teachers in this school as the research objects. The aim of this paper is to explore the reflective learning ability of high school students.Analyze the relevance of reflective learning ability and English performance, and provide teaching and learning suggestions for senior high school English teachers and students. This research mainly answers the following two questions:1.What is the status quo of senior high students’ reflective learning ability?2.What is the correlation between reflective learning ability of senior high school students and their English achievement? From the relevant analysis,it is concluded that the reflective learning ability of senior high school students is not high, and it is closely related to the student’s academic achievement. Therefore, students’ English achievement can be improved by improving students’ reflective learning ability in English. Finally, this research puts forward some relevant suggestions: 1)For teachers,English teachers in senior high school should pay attention to the importance of reflective learning ability for students’ academic performance, and even the importance of students’ life-long development;in class and when assigning homework We must pay attention to cultivating students’ sense of reflection;help students to conduct reflections and summaries on a regular basis, and give students appropriate feedback;2)For students, they should formulate their own learning plans and learning goals;regularly conduct learning summaries, etc. |
