As an influential independent film wave in Japan in the 1980 s and 1990 s,the Japanese New Cinema provided free and creative conditions for the new generation of Japanese directors while witnessing the development and innovation of Japanese filmdom.As a result,a large number of new and cutting-edge Japanese directors who possessed their own characteristics,their diversities of art merits,their distinctive sense of rebellion and innovation had emerged.Among them Koki Mitani was regarded as a rebellious and innovative explorer who constantly sought and transformed his narration,stage placement,scene scheduling on stage plays into distinctive image construction and formal expressions in innovative ways.Koki Mitani’s comedy genre was an outstanding and subjective expression in Japanese filmdom in the new era,he utilized imaginative and creative ways of entertainment to vent his resentment and satire of social modernization,so as to allude to the living situation and life value of ordinary civilians in the post-industrial era of Japan from the prospective of social contradictions and humanistic care.The research object selected in this paper is Japanese director Koki Mitani,and all of his film works will act as the research context.This paper will employ the research method of theory-work combination to analyze the themes,artistic features,image styles,audio-visual skills,narrative strategies,spatial metaphors and other aspects of the film works directed by Koki Mitani.The research content of this paper will be divided into four parts.The first chapter will summarize the creative track of Koki Mitani from the historical context of the new generation of Japanese directors,discuss the creation styles of his Japanese comedy genres and image expressions.The second chapter will analyze the film theme and the image expression of Japanese traditional ethos from the aspect of multiple dimensions.The third chapter will analyze the unique narrative strategies of Koki Mitani’s film from the perspective of film narratology,and interpret the daily aesthetic effect brought by his characterization technique of group portrait.The fourth chapter will explore the expression of feelings from the points of audiovisual language performance and film space placement,expound Koki Mitani’s creation technique of fusion from his creation experience of harmony and coexistence in various art forms,so as to seek for the reference significance of this unique creation experience that draws on Hollywood genre films,national spirit penetration,practical significance inquiry,and various art forms fusion for Chinese genre films.
